A Place to Land When the World Feels Broken *
Grief changes everything.
It doesn’t come with a warning. It doesn’t follow a timeline. And it doesn’t look the same for any two people. One moment you’re standing, the next you’re learning how to survive a life you never asked for.
Most people will never truly understand grief unless they’ve lived it. They may study it, talk about it, or try to comfort it but living it is different. Living it means carrying a pain that doesn’t leave, learning how to breathe through moments that feel unbearable, and finding a way forward when your world has been forever changed.
If that speaks to you… this space was created for you.
Katrinaslegacy.org is a place for those who are grieving whether your loss is recent or years old. A place where you don’t have to explain your pain, justify your feelings, or pretend to be okay. Here, you can read real stories, share your own, and simply exist without judgment.
This is not about fixing grief.
This is about honoring it. Living through it. And reminding you that you are not alone in it.
Take a moment. Step inside. You may find exactly what you didn’t know you needed.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, saves those whose spirit is crushed.”
— Psalm 34:19
Special Dedication to my Dear Sister in Christ Sylvia Bermea
I would like to offer a very special thank you to my dear sister in Christ, Sylvia Bermea.
I met Sylvia over 20 years ago through my daughter, Katrina Castillo, and from the very beginning, she has been faithfully by her side. Through every season of life, Sylvia has shown up with unwavering love and devotion. In times when I felt overwhelmed when life felt too heavy and I stumbled—she was always there, gently lifting me up and helping me find peace, renewal, and strength again.
Sylvia has prayed for my family day in and day out. She nurtured Katrina’s faith, from guiding her in Sunday school to planting seeds that took deep root in her heart and soul. She watched my Katrina grow into a beautiful young woman, and she stood beside me through the most unimaginable pain the day my daughter was taken from this world.
With grace and compassion, Sylvia helped arrange Katrina’s funeral and walked with me through every step of that painful journey. She has remained by my side through both my darkest valleys and my most sacred moments. Truly, she has been an angel on earth, walking with me day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment.
I am beyond grateful for her friendship and sisterhood. Sylvia, thank you for allowing me to be part of your life and your circle. Words cannot fully express how precious you are not only to me, but to everyone whose life you have touched. Your servant’s heart does not go unnoticed. You are a true blessing, a shining light in this world, and we need more people like you.
I pray that the Lord continues to protect you and cover you in His peace and grace. I pray that you are always wrapped in His love and held close beneath the mantle of our Blessed Mother Mary. And I pray that you always know how deeply you are loved by me, by your family, and by so many others.
With all my love and gratitude.
